Trick or Treat Exchange Letter 2021
Sep. 11th, 2021 11:09 pmHi!
Thanks for creating something for me! The thing I love the most about fandom is seeing everyone's passions and the different takes everyone has on the same canon/premise/characters, so I'm super excited to see what you come up with!
I've organized this letter into general likes & DNWs and then by fandom specific prompts/likes/thoughts that might inspire you. I've decided to go character only for this round of Trick or Treat, but I'm happy with either gen or ship works, so be as flexible as you'd like (I don't have any NOTPs!) I'm writing this letter from scratch to be more general and less rambly but I've requested a lot of these fandoms before if you want to filter my dreamwidth for a given fandom. Otherwise, feel free to mix & match things in my letter, take inspiration from my AO3 works/bookmarks/older exchange letters or whatnot, or go with whatever your muse is telling you! This letter is only to help with your inspiration if you so choose.
Happy to receive treats for any of my fandoms at any time into the future <3 I don't think I ever truly get over things I was into - 'tis the joy of fandom, right?

Likes:
- Settings based in canon:
- Examples: canon-divergence, missing scenes in canon, post-canon, pre-canon, etc.
- I adore works that deal with the 'what-if's, and gaps in worldbuilding/lore/character relationships that get explored/explained!
- AUs:
- Some common AUs I like include: magic/magical realism, royalty, time loops, alternative professions, reincarnation (especially if it ties into their canon-selves!)
- I also love AUs based off other established canons (Hogwarts is my personal fav, alongside Hunger Games/Avatar the Last Airbender, but really anything goes as long as you depict it in a way that doesn't require me to know the canon - maybe you'll convince me to pick it up ...)
- I also enjoy slice of AU embedded in canon-setting (e.g. soulmates exist in canon though everything else remains the same, a/b/o secondary genders are a thing, etc)
- General Tropes/Themes:
- Character development/character driven, b/c who needs plot, right? Not me!
- Deep emotional connections between friends and/or family, with LOTS of trust and loyalty. Also when that loyalty is misused/abused, that's an excellent flavour too.
- Working together as a team (effectively! or poorly and learning from their lessons!)
- Found family
- Competent characters, whether or not they flaunt it
- Hurt/comfort
- Introspection, ALL THE INTROSPECTION. I love it in whatever form you choose
- 5+1s
- Open endings
- Communication, whether through words or otherwise
- The 'oh' moment, a trope as old as time for good reason
- Romance-Specific Tropes/Themes:
- Feelings realization: whether abrupt, long stupid pining, or like long stupid mutual pining. All good flavours!
- Touch-starvation, importance and significance of touch
- Relationship progression past just getting together. I'd like to see how they navigate their new feelings/relationship status, all the ups and downs!
- Identity porn/use of names as symbolism to convey a specific relationship/point/identity (e.g. nickname only A calls B, given names only A can call B, that trope where A calls out B by a different name when they're in danger for the first time, all that good stuff!)
- Dysfunctional/unhealthy relationships (e.g. codependence, power imbalance, shouldn't/can't be with each other b/c of ~circumstances~), especially when the characters are still horribly attracted/drawn to the other.
- In every lifetime, it's you
- For you and only you, I'll do anything. Corruption arcs are sexy, and so is A going feral/unhinged only for B.
- Smut-Specific Tropes/Themes:
- Sexual tension of all varieties (accidental, a device for feelings realization, or being a tease on purpose!), especially if it's resolved by the end.
- Dub-con and non-con of all types (Some favourite flavours include sex pollen, fuck or die, A/B/O - whether conventional or unconventional pairings/tropes, blackmail/to protect someone else/under duress, somnophilia, okay I can probably go on and on but you get the gist!)
- Sexual insatiability - whether that be from drugs or a/b/o hormones or whatnot, your pick!
- Edging, orgasm denial, overstimulation
- Sexual experimentation of all types (more about the navigation of trying new things than whatever that new thing is, but either or goes!)
- Switching, switching up power dynamics/power imbalance
- Voyeurism, exhibitionism
- Hatesex (with actual feelings suppressed underneath or genuine hatred, up to you), especially if it's like an unhealthy/unestablished relationship but the sex is just too good to let go of it
- Subspace/subdrop + aftercare
- I've also been trying to make the tag "Pining while fucking" a canonical tag on AO3 for whenever they do non-fandom canonicals again, so if you can somehow add that in as a tag, you will have my heart!!! <3
DNWs:
- Graphic violence/gore/vore
- Crack
- A focus on pregnancy
- A focus on children/kid-fic (mentions of canonical children are ok!)
- A focus on OCs (okay if minor role, or created out of necessity to the plot without lingering on the OC's characteristics too much)
- Permanent major/any requested character death (temporary okay, major character death that's canonical okay, villains/OCs okay)
- Genderbending/Rule 63, or any unrequested gender identity headcanons playing a prominent role in the work
- First or second person POV narration (in letters/epistolary are ok!)

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood & Manga
Fully caught up on this canon (both anime & manga).
Alphonse Elric
Edward Elric
- Fandom-specific likes:
- Ed & Al's relationship and shared trauma/growth/bonding as well as their devotion to each other
- Ed's automail
- Al's time in the armour
- Body vs soul
- The intersectionality between alchemy, science, and religion
- What home looks like for them post-canon
- The concept of equivalent exchange.
- Trick inspirations:
- Ed has nightmares, because he's been through a lot.
- Phantom pains for Ed relating to the automail. How does he live with it?
- Al can't sleep, what does he think about? What does he do? What does he notice about Ed every night?
- A transmutation gone wrong, what are the consequences?
- Treat inspirations:
- Ed and/or Al has a nice day, because they deserve it after the journey they've been through in canon.
- Al learns and grows into his own in his new body. Could range anywhere from 'oh this is how food tastes again' to 'oh this is how you masturbate'. Cute to sexy, up to you.
- Al and cats! That's all.
- Ed learning to live without alchemy. What does he spend time doing instead?
- I don't have NOTPs but here are some ships I'm fond of if you feel like shipping:
- Ed/Winry, Ed/Al
Hunter X Hunter
Fully watched 2011 anime; spoil me on manga if you'd like, I know the gist.
Gon Freecs
Killua Zoldyck
Kurapika
Illumi Zoldyck
- Fandom-specific likes:
- Nen and the wide range of abilities it can theoretically manifest
- The Greed Island cards, because oh my god the range on those
- Gon & Killua's relationship, especially how they shape each other's lives as each other's first major influence on, well, everything. Essentially children growing up far too fast and what that implicates.
- The fact that hunters have a free license to do a lot of whatever they want
- Different types of potential hunter exams
- Trick inspirations:
- Illumi's needles and what they can do, especially to Killua (and what they've done in the past). You can make their relationship rather dark & twisted on the obsessive side. I always think of the reaction Killua first had to Illumi in the Hunter exam and what could have possibly conditioned him to that and think 'ah yes, trauma, give it to me'.
- Typical Zoldyck family dysfunction that is actually rather functional because they're assassins and this is all perfectly normal thank you very much. Torture/conditioning/abuse being normalized and perhaps how Killua manages to cope with it.
- Kurapika & the very gloomy implications of Emperor Time
- Make Chimera Ant Arc hurt more. I dare you.
- Killua and his switch, because those eyes haunt me.
- Treat inspirations:
- Gon and Killua talking things out and being happy together, travel the world, exploring new firsts with each other, settling down, visiting friends, the whole works. Think Whale Island episodes, but like when they're older and still deliriously happy to be by each other's side.
- Kurapika actually returning his friends' calls. Yes, this is a treat-level event.
- Meet on September 1, in York New City is an actual annual thing for Gon, Killua, Leorio & Kurapika.
- Gon discovering a life post losing his nen and realizing it's alright.
- I don't have NOTPs but here are some ships I'm fond of if you feel like shipping:
- Gon/Killua, Leorio/Kurapika, Illumi/Killua
Pandora Hearts
Read the whole manga, watched the anime too. Prefer the manga for this purpose, since the anime ended rather abruptly...
Elliot Nightray
Gilbert Nightray
Vincent Nightray
- Fandom-specific likes:
- The concept of Glen and the Ill Omens
- Gilbert and his devotion & complicated relationship with Vincent and Oz
- The Abyss, time traveling through it and what that means.
- The Nightrays and the Baskervilles
- Trick inspirations:
- The Tragedy of Sablier in general. Divergence? Missing scene? All good stuff.
- Gilbert's amnesia, run with what that implies.
- Elliot still hurts me. Please feel free to hurt me more.
- Vincent being Vincent. From guilt to psycho to mastermind to obsessive, love it all.
- Obsessive/dark behaviour, captivity/bargaining, dub-con/non-con to prove a point.
- Treat inspirations:
- Give Elliot a happy ending somehow, please.
- Ada inspiring Vincent was a touching moment, I'd love to see more of that.
- The strength of actual and found family.
- In another world, they all just attend the school together and become friends/bicker with each other/live relatively carefree teenage lives.
- I don't have NOTPs but here are some ships I'm fond of if you feel like shipping:
- Elliot/Leo, Gilbert/Oz, Gilbert/Vincent, Vincent/Ada
Daiya no A
I will definitely be done season 2 by the time reveals happen, so no spoilers for after then (which I believe is after the Fall tournament in Sawamura's first year). I will likely get further based off how fast I'm devouring this (and will indicate on my letter when I do), but just to be safe!
- Update (Sep 20, 2021): I am now done season 2. The chances of me finishing season 3 by reveals? Not zero...
- Update (Oct 26, 2021): I updated my FFFX letter but forgot to update this but I am caught up in anime and in manga!!!
Miyuki Kazuya
Sawamura Eijun
Narumiya Mei
Kominato Haruichi
- Fandom-specific likes:
- Seidou team bonding & dynamics as well as rivalry and competitive spirit with other schools
- The dynamic of different batteries
- Baseball to personality metaphors
- The concept of growth and development in baseball skills as well as growing as a person
- Teenagers being teenagers.
- Trick inspirations:
- Hurt/comfort after a mistake/a loss
- The pain of graduation/separation/an injury/always feeling like you're chasing after someone's back
- Upper years playing pranks/tricks on their underclassmen. Would love some Miyuki and/or Narumiya being dicks and being gleeful about it.
- Still thinking about Miyuki turning down Narumiya's invitation to go to Inashiro and how that dynamic unfolds after their first game together, in years to come, my head just spins.
- Treat inspirations:
- Horny teenagers fooling around, especially after the thrill of a hard-fought victory
- Wholesome team bonding and/or a field trip of some kind to unwind, except everyone still just wants to play baseball.
- Relationship dynamics being reflected in their baseball plays, and outsiders catching on.
- Miyuki captain appreciation day. I have no idea what this might entail but it makes me giddy thinking about it.
- I don't have NOTPs but here are some ships I'm fond of if you feel like shipping:
- Miyuki/Sawamura, Miyuki/Narumiya, Sawamura/Haruichi, Kuramochi/Haruichi
Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku
Watched the anime & caught up to ch70 of the manga. Will continue to be if more English translations come out.
Kabakura Tarou
Koyanagi Hanako
Momose Narumi
Nifuji Hirotaka
- Fandom-specific likes:
- The fact that they're adults and nerds AT THE SAME TIME.
- The fact that the main four all work at the same company, their easy and natural friendship, their sleepovers, AND there's some inherent weird hierarchy/power dynamics happening there.
- Otaku culture snippets: twitter, Narumi drawing doujins, conventions, Hanako & cosplays, gaming together, Animate, etc
- Trick inspirations:
- Their otaku lives clash with their normie lives. Hilarity and/or horror ensues.
- Hurt/comfort of some sort. Health scare from Hirotaka grinding games for too long? Insecurity from any of them?
- Coming to terms or not with growing older and still very much in love with otaku culture.
- Kink exploration gone wrong.
- Treat inspirations:
- The most otaku date you can think of.
- Halloween, but with cosplays instead.
- Narumi taking real life inspiration/poses in order to storyboard her newest doujin. The BL shenanigans make me laugh so much, especially how Hirotaka's just like *shrug* sure.
- Intimacy on the pairing(s) of your choosing. It might be cool if you worked in some kind of otaku-related roleplay, and how that might go over well - or not!
- I don't have NOTPs but here are some ships I'm fond of if you feel like shipping:
- Narumi/Hirotaka, Tarou/Hanako, Narumi/Hirotaka/Tarou/Hanako, Narumi/Hanako, Hirotaka/Tarou.

Jujutsu Kaisen
Watched both seasons of the anime, caught up and will remain caught up on the English translation of the manga!
Fushiguro Megumi
Inumaki Toge
Kugisaki Nobara
Okkotsu Yuuta
Ryoumen Sukuna
Zenin Mai
Zenin Maki
- Fandom-specific likes:
- The manifestation of curses and the role of jujutsu sorcerers, especially over time.
- The Zenins and whatever the hell they have going on there re: technique superiority and all that toxic fun stuff.
- Cursed techniques and domains and the range of forms they can take, especially like Sukuna's, Inumaki's, Nobara's, and Megumi's.
- The two jujutsu schools and what they actually learn in class.
- Teenagers being teenagers in boarding school, essentially.
- Trick inspirations:
- All the characters and their rather shitty upbringings and how that leaves a stain in their current day selves.
- An exorcism gone wrong/beyond their pay grade and the real consequences/grief & mourning that ensue as a result.
- Halloween pranks, but only via cursed techniques.
- Sukuna and what he decides to use his 'enchain' 1 minute for.
- Captivity, hostage negotiations/situations, dub-con/non-con to prove a point, what it means to lose.
- Treat inspirations:
- Older students mentoring/protecting the younger ones and developing said friendships/found family.
- Horny teenagers in a boarding school doing what you'd expect them to.
- Team bonding activities gone very right or very hilariously wrong.
- Inumaki and his very carefully chosen wise words.
- A day off, what does each of them do with it?
- I don't have NOTPs but here are some ships I'm fond of if you feel like shipping:
- Megumi/Sukuna, Megumi/Yuuji, Inumaki/Okkotsu, Mai/Maki, Maki/Nobara
Yuukoku no Moriarty | Moriarty the Patriot
Watched both seasons of the anime and am caught up to the English translation of the manga.
Louis James Moriarty
Sherlock Holmes
William James Moriarty
- Fandom-specific likes:
- Mind games & pretty much borderline flirtation between William & Sherlock and how they read each other so well.
- The fact that the Lord of Crime is 'James Moriarty' and not specifically just William.
- Exploration of justice, the morality spectrum, and the exceptions people make against their moral compass because of ~reasons~.
- Everyone's unending devotion/loyalty/trust in William, and how that in turns isolates him.
- The manga art style, so so much.
- Trick inspirations:
- William falling asleep at a very bad time. Does he have nightmares?
- A plan gone wrong and how it's handled.
- The implications of the Final Problem and how everyone comes to terms with it.
- Recovery, taking care of an injury, angst relating to the events of the fall and how other characters take William & Sherlock's disappearance. I'm dreadfully fond of any take of potential "Last Times" and what ensues. If you did want to explore William dying, I will waive my major character death DNW for this.
- Any of the characters breaking down at last.
- Anything relating to the significance of Louis' scar.
- Dub-con/non-con as a coping mechanism/battle for dominance and/or winning/a way to say goodbye.
- Treat inspirations:
- William and Sherlock take on a case together again and having a lot of fun with it.
- A party at the Moriartys and what goes down. In contrast, a party at 221B Baker Street.
- William's brand of flirtation with a side of murder, and/or flirtation that goes wayyy beyond flirting.
- People being good at their jobs (William as a professor, Sherlock as a detective, Louis as MI6, etc...)
- Anything on William & Sherlock being each other's match, in whatever way you choose to interpret that term.
- I don't have NOTPs but here are some ships I'm fond of if you feel like shipping:
- Sherlock/William, William/Louis
Yakusoku no Neverland | The Promised Neverland
Watched both seasons of the anime and read the manga and would prefer manga-route given the pacing of season 2 of the anime.
Emma
Ray
Norman
Isabella
- Fandom-specific likes:
- The promise, what led up to it, what forging a new promise entails.
- Cattle children and the logistics behind it: development, the use of barcodes, testing, caretaking, found family themes, etc.
- Mind games, survival skills, trying to best the demons at their own game, unending determination to escape/succeed.
- Trick inspirations:
- Training to become a Mama and what that entails, especially in relation to giving birth (will waive my kidfic DNW for this.)
- Isabella and how she deals/negotiates with the demons.
- Any number of canon-divergences in which they do not succeed and prematurely get their plans ruined.
- Dark!Norman, dig into that, because I dig it.
- Also Ray being a logical self-sacrificial little shit, love that too.
- How each of them cope with loss and grief.
- Treat inspirations:
- Post-canon and how they get used to the human world. Feel free to twist/change the manga canon ending as you wish (or make it more trick/bittersweet).
- Emma/Norman/Ray playing 4D chess with each other, but with less heavy stakes.
- Friendship so strong that it transcends time and universes.
- I don't have NOTPs but here are some ships I'm fond of if you feel like shipping:
- Emma/Ray, Emma/Norman, Norman/Ray, Emma/Norman/Ray
The Social Network
Watched (and cried) over this movie many times.
Mark Zuckerberg
Eduardo Saverin
- Fandom-specific likes:
- The progression of Mark and Eduardo's relationship and how drastically different their dynamic can be depending on which era you go for (Harvard, Palo Alto, Depositions, Post-Depositions).
- Mark being an intelligent asshole who knows it and frankly doesn't care - or selectively cares, up to your interpretation. Always very fond of the "You have no idea what this will mean to my father / Of course I do." scene that proves he has a heart kind of interpretation.
- Framing the events from different POVs through legal proceedings.
- Trick inspirations:
- Dysfunctional Mark/Eduardo and how incredibly toxic and hot that can be when you throw the lawsuit and the aftermath in there. Emotional manipulation and all that.
- I always think of the hallway scene and hatesex. Maybe screwing over Eduardo was never metaphorical. Maybe that changes things in the context of the lawsuit.
- "I was your only friend. You had one friend." This will never cease to break me.
- Life after Facebook for Eduardo and how he does or doesn't manage to move on.
- Treat inspirations:
- College experimentation/shenanigans. Think that bathroom scene, but like, more of it.
- People taking care of Mark, who doesn't seem to eat or sleep or want to if he can code instead.
- Any number of backstories for some of the random Facebook features that exist (e.g. poking, the Wall, etc, oh my god as I type this I feel so old because I have no idea what recent Facebook features even are.)
- Reconciliation/fix-its, because it's 2021 and I'm still hurt over this 2010 movie.
- I don't have NOTPs but here are some ships I'm fond of if you feel like shipping:
- Mark/Eduardo.
The Good Place
Watched all 4 seasons.
Janet
Bad Janet
Shawn
Trevor
Vicky
Michael
- Fandom-specific likes:
- The concept of the afterlife: the composition of neighbourhoods, the Good Place vs the Bad Place, the Judge, the concept of the Medium Place, Janets, architects, the point system & accountants...okay basically all the lore fascinates me, especially how it's redeveloped in season 4.
- The idea that humans can become better after death.
- Reboots!
- Trick inspirations:
- Any kind of Bad Place torture schemes and the demons being themselves. Alternatively, what do they do for fun?
- The demons who were part of Michaels' original experiment being actors and fucking around.
- Any chaotic reboot of your creation/choice.
- Treat inspirations:
- Vicky being damn good at her new season 4 job.
- Michael becoming human and living his best life.
- Janet and her unique worldview. Janet's interactions with all other Janets would frankly be gold.
- I don't have NOTPs but here are some ships I'm fond of if you feel like shipping:
- Okay, it seems I skew gen really hard for these characters, but feel free to surprise me!
Thanks!
Lulu
